Flying, Wailua Falls, Ke'e Beach Snorkeling & a Luau

Tuesday May 10

Time to hit the road... or I guess air in this case.

Time to get on the plane and head to LAX, then off to Lihue, Kauai!

The flying Pro! He even has Curious George ready for take off

Jared is not quite the pro Chris is... so Chris held his hand during take offs and landings

Taking off in SLC.... heading to LAX

Inflight entertainment.....he's got his own headphones so the whole plane doesn't have to listen to his movies

The boys trying to take a nap on the long flight from LAX to Lihue

Aloha from Lihue, Kauai!!

Can't forget to stop and smell the flowers

After the flight to LAX, then Lihue we were pretty tired. We arrived about 20 minutes early and had to wait for the rest of the party to arrive from Kona and Honolulu. Lucky ducks had already been on the Big Island for 10 days! After all 9 of us got the rental cars and got ALL our stuff loaded up, it was time to head up to Princeville and to the timeshare. The time share was awesome! We had a 3 bedroom/bath condo, so each party got their own room/bathroom, and we shared a living room, kitchen and lanai. We made a quick run to the grocery store for the absolute necessities for the night/morning, and then the 3 of us had to head to bed, we were pretty exhausted. It was only 9pm over there, but 1am in Salt Lake, so we were ready for bed.

Wednesday May 11

Chris, Jared and I were waking up about 3am, which was 7am for us. The others were still fast asleep since they were already on Hawaii time, and not Utah time like us. We managed to hit our internal snooze buttons for about another hour, but it didn't seem to last long.

Chris wanted to sit and hold Lexie... she finally let him and I was able to get this cute pic of the two.

After we all got up and moving and got some breakfast we took my Mom and Bob to go tubing down the river. While they were "fluming the ditch" the rest of us wondered around Lihue for a few hours. We found the Harley Davidson shop so that Jared could get himself a Harley shirt from Kauai. Then we took the little drive up to Wailua Falls.

the trio with the top of Wailua falls behind us.... the little man was pouting, and wouldn't smile for the picture

Thursday May 12

Today we had a Luau scheduled for the evening so we decided to go check out Ke'e Beach and do some snorkeling and swimming earlier in the day.

Jared, Chris and me getting ready to go snorkeling

Chris and Grandma... yes its raining, but no one seemed to care

So cute!!

he wasn't too sure about really getting out there in the water and actually snorkeling. He stayed in the shallow waters and made sure he could stand up or keep a hold of someone.

'Opeaka'a Falls & Spouting Horn (Friday May 13)

Friday May 13

Today we went out on our own to see some of the sites of this beautiful island. Since Mom, Bob, Chris and I had already been to Kauai, and had done a driving island tour, we decided to conduct our own tour instead of paying someone else to do it.

Chris and Lainey wanted to take pictures of themselves with my camera. What a goof ball this little man is

Lainey wanted to take a picture of Chris and me... such a momma's boy

'Opeaka'a Falls

Lill Man and his mommy in front of 'Opeaka'a Falls

Chris wanted to take a picture of the falls on his own... he's getting pretty good at taking pictures

Down to the south end of the island is Spouting Horn

Lawa'i Road
Po'ipu, South Kauai

This natural wonder occurs as water rushes under a lava shelf and bursts through a small opening at the surface. Every wave produces another spray. Spouting Horn frequently spurts salt water 50 feet into the air. The phenomina is especially exciting at sunset when the spray becomes incandescent with the colors of the rainbow.

This particular blowhole is different from others found throughout the state as another hole nearby only blows air, making a loud groaning sound. Legend states that this coast was guarded by a large mo'o (lizard) who ate everyone who tried to fish or swim here. One day, a man named Liko entered the water.

When the mo'o went to attack him, he swam under the lava shelf and escaped through the hole. The mo'o became stuck and was never able to get out. The groaning is the cry of hunger and pain from the lizard still trapped under the rocks.

a little spray

Chris fell asleep on the way here, so he was a little crabby after waking up

I think Jared might actually be starting to smile!

Jared's phone call that finally got him into a good mood that day :-)

Doing a little "Chicken Dance"
"Here Chickens"

For some reason he was afraid of the chickens that are all over the island. He was throwing little sticks at them to try and scare them off. It was pretty funny to watch him.
